Experienced Workers Practical Assessment route (EWPA)

The Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA) offers you, as an experienced worker, an alternative way of achieving a qualification without requiring further training at a college or centre.

The EWPA assessment method typically involves you going to an off-site location to have your practical skills and occupational knowledge assessed. All the practical skills needed to achieve a level 2 competence qualification are usually included in the practical assessment. The practical assessment is observed by a registered assessor and may combine the use of:

  • Witness testimonies
  • Employer endorsement
  • Practical assessment
  • Professional discussion
  • Questions and answers exam

A professional discussion and job knowledge question session are used by the assessor to assess your occupational knowledge and understanding. Only approved qualifications can be assessed through EWPA, please refer to the list below for current approved qualifications.

How do I deliver qualifications through EWPA?

To deliver a qualification through EWPA you will first require approval from us. You can do this by using the EWPA approval application (PDF, 540KB)form and sending it to us via email or post to address listed on the top of the form. You will only need approval once.

Once you have decided to deliver one or more qualifications through the EWPA route and gained your ‘approval for delivery’ status, you will need to notify us of your intention to deliver an assessment via EWPA.  You can do this by simply filling out a EWPA notification form (78KB, PDF) and sending it via email or post to address listed on the top of the form.

Before you deliver a EWPA route to a learner you must familiarise yourself with EWPA Part 1 (217KB, PDF), this will provide you with the centre and assessment guidelines required to deliver a EWPA assessment, and attend a one day mandatory briefing for assessors.

The briefing for assessors will equip you with the skills and knowledge to complete an appropriate professional discussion with the learner; this is critical part to the success of the EWPA assessment methodology. This briefing must be attended within the first six months of the centre’s approval. To take advantage of this please contact us.
