The industry asks CITB-ConstructionSkills to collect an annual levy from all liable employers. Grants are then given to employers who train. This is seen by our industry as the best way to support training.
As a general rule, it is the smaller firms who train most new entrants. The larger companies can then benefit by hiring these skilled workers later in their career. Without CITB-ConstructionSkills Grant, the small firms would simply not be able to afford to train any operatives and the industry as a whole would suffer.
If you do pay some CITB-ConstructionSkills Levy, but choose not to get directly involved in training, you are still helping to maintain the industry's training and recruitment levels, as well as other activities. This will ultimately benefit you, albeit indirectly, by there being enough trained staff in the workforce.
For more information on the CITB-ConstructionSkills Levy, including details of how to register and how to benefit, use the following links. Alternatively, please download the Sharing Investment of Training booklet (182kb PDF file).
Every CITB-ConstructionSkills’ registered firm is eligible for Grant, advice and support, even those not liable to pay Levy.
We’ve helped thousands of employers, who now benefit from valuable information on available grants, training opportunities, general advice on health and safety training, On-Site Assessment and Training (OSAT), Training Plans, Investors in People (IiP) status and many other grant-aided initiatives.
Even if you do pay some Levy, but choose not to get directly involved in training, you are still helping to maintain the industry’s training and recruitment levels. All employers ultimately benefit from having enough trained staff in the workforce.
In 2006 we distributed £113 million in training grants. Total benefits in 2006 equated to £1.90 for every £1 paid in levy. The funds we offer as Grant don’t just come from the Levy. We also work on behalf of the industry to tap into funds from many different areas. As a result, we bring in much more than could be obtained by employers acting individually.
Your local ConstructionSkills office will help you identify which Grants and training are most suitable to make your firm safer and more profitable. For more information on Grant, see the Grant section
