With an annual average decline of 0.1% over the five years to 2021, the North East’s total construction output is predicted to experience stagnation. This is one of the weakest outlooks across the UK regions and devolved nations.

- Employment in Northern East is forecast to decline by an annual average of 0.6%

What does this mean for construction jobs?
This means that demand for some trades will be higher than others. The jobs most in demand over the next five years, in the North East, are:
- Non construction professional, technical and IT staff - 200
- Construction trades supervisors – 150
- Specialist building operatives – 110
- Senior, executive and business process managers - 110
- Other construction professionals and technical staff - 110
