Research provides us with facts about the industry. We undertake a regular programme of research that aims to identify the skills needed to improve the construction industry's competitiveness. We produce forecasts and analyses of skills demand in the industry on an annual basis.

Diversity within construction

There has been little change in the percentage of women employed over the past 10 years. However, during the same period, some sectors have gained increasing numbers of ethnic minorities. 

Measuring private investment in training

No-one knows how much money is being invested in construction training. Whilst we have good data on public sector spending, the overall picture is blurred by the lack of reliable information on spending by the private sector.

Research is being carried out to quantify private spending on training across UK construction.

It will be used to develop a mechanism;

  • for monitoring private investment in training
  • provide a UK-wide picture which can be analysed by region/country, and
  • a benchmark from which to measure progress in the future.
