Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is an alternative progression route from school to higher education. It is a model for a holistic learning process which takes learners through the full experiential learning ‘cycle’, combining on-the-job and off-the-job learning activities.

Assessed Route of Entry
A means of allowing an experienced individual to gain a qualification through an assessment of experience, rather than training.

AVCE
Advanced Vocational Certificates of Education

Awarding Body
ConstructionSkills works together with City & Guilds as an ‘Awarding Body’. The main jobs of an Awarding Body are to approve centres and assessors, monitor the assessment process and award NVQ/SVQ and unit certificates. It carries out external verification to ensure that candidates are being assessed fairly and consistently across all centres.
