Construction output in Yorkshire and Humber is forecast to grow at an annual average rate of 0.5% between 2017 and 2021, as opposed to 1.7% at the national level. This represents a substantial downgrade compared to last year’s projection of an increase of 2.4% a year in the five years to 2020.
- Growth is expected to focus on the infrastructure sector at 1.5% in the short term
- Employment is forecast to remain stable with an annual average of -0.1%
- Yorkshire and the Humber has an average recruitment requirement of 1,860
What does this mean for construction jobs?
This means that demand for some trades will be higher than others. The jobs most in demand over the next five years, in the Yorkshire and the Humber, are:
- Non construction professional, technical and IT staff – 380
- Wood trades and interior fit out staff - 380
- Labourers - 180
- Senior, executive, and business process managers - 160
- Other construction process managers - 140
