Stephen Kemp shares the experience of Orkney Builders, both of working with CITB Apprenticeships and the importance of apprentices to their business.
How easy is it to take on an apprentice?
We run a number of work experience programmes each year and work closely with Jacq Argo our local CITB Apprenticeship Officer so we are fortunate to have high quality applicants each year.
Why did you decide to take on an apprentice?
We’ve always employed a number of apprentices. In our experience training and developing apprentices offers us greater stability within our workforce and also ensures we have a team of people who are suited very specifically to our operation.
Would you recommend taking on an apprentice?
Without doubt it is an ideal way to increase the number of skilled people in your workforce. It assists in retaining staff and you ultimately end up with very skilled team members who really know the way your company operates and does things.
