The project will upskill operatives with grandfather rights to ensure all those with CSCS cards also achieve associated NVQs by 2020.

It will do this by developing an introductory course and Specialist Upskilling Programme (SUP) and these courses will then be rolled out to the sector.

  • Develop ‘introduction to lightning conducting’ 3-day course and Lightning Protection Engineer SUP
  • Deliver to those from industry with expiring grandfather rights.

Completed project summary

The project finished in December 2017.  27 operatives with grandfather rights achieved an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Lightning Conductor Engineer or Lightning Conductor Steeplejack; 4 operatives completed the SUP; 22 employees attended a half day seminar and have a further understanding of the industry.
