Construction ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management Practice

This qualification is suitable for subcontractors, gangers,foremen, team leaders, supervisors and site managers. It is aimed at providing higher calibre leadership and management practices.


Working closely with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), the National Construction College has produced this new construction specific ILM qualification.

The ILM Level 3 Award is suitable for anyone requiring a thorough understanding of management and leadership principles to effectively lead, supervise and safely manage people across the many different industry sub-sectors within the expanding built environment sector.

Course Structure

The course comprises two units:

  • Unit 8611-300: Leadership and Management Practice for the Construction and Built Environment Sector
  • Unit 8611-301: Delivery of Site Operations and Logistics

The units cover:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Leadership and management
  • Safety, health, environment and quality management
  • Planning and monitoring work
  • Allocating work to team members
  • Improving team performance.

Entry requirements:

You must have a good understanding of spoken and written English. Please contact us if you have any concerns in this area.

Assessment and exams:

The mandatory Award units are delivered over 4 full day classroom based workshops.  In addition you will be required to complete your assignments outside of the course.  This gives learners the opportunity to relate what they have learnt back to their role, making the training more relevant.

The assignment is in the form of short answer questions which must be successfully completed to meet the requirements of ILM.

You will need to use a computer to produce and submit your assignment.  If you can bring a laptop with you during the course it would help you to complete your assignment.


On successful completion of the course you will be awarded the ILM Award in Leadership and Management Practice for the Construction and Built Environment Sector.
