You must know and understand:
how to remove existing units and fitments, ensuring that the space is in the best possible condition for the new kitchen installation
how to carry out a pre-fit inspection to ensure that all kitchen units can be installed with the required methods and techniques
how to assemble fitted kitchen furniture sequentially for the required fit and finish
the basic principles of carpentry which can be used when installing kitchen furniture which include:
the difference between natural and manufactured materials and how they should be handled accordingly
the types of adhesives that can be used depending on the material you are applying them to
the different types of fixing methods
the manufacturers specifications
how to form cut outs in work surfaces for appliances, sinks and services and the importance of accuracy for the required fit and finish and to ensure the correct sealing of exposed edges
the importance of encasing services and heat-producing appliances when using boxing, boarding and frameworks, in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and appropriate legislation
how to scribe, mitre and fix mouldings including internal and external corners
how to fit peninsular and island unit arrangements in accordance with appliance manufacturers instructions and the appropriate legislation
the needs of other occupations and trades to prepare a space for a new installation including those associated with the removal of an existing kitchen that are part of the remedial work and make good activities
the needs of other occupations and trades associated with the process of a new kitchen installation
how to fit integrated appliances and the importance of specifications and clearances
the competency and legislative boundaries regarding capabilities and compliance with gas, electrics, water, waste and asbestos whilst removing and installing kitchens
how resources should be used and how any problems associated with the resources are reported in relation to:
timber
timber based sheet materials
plastics
resins
stone
marble
ceramics
glass
hand and powered tools and equipment
digital equipment
cement based boards and composites
sealants and adhesives
