• Role and responsibilities of a plant operator

• Principle components, basic construction, controls, and terminology

• Manufacturer’s requirements, operator’s handbook, regulations, and legislation

• Pre-use checks

• Configure and set for site travel

• Rough, undulating ground, substantial inclines, and level surfaces

• Manoeuvre in confined spaces

• Configure and set for excavating

• Underground and overhead hazards

• Types of excavations

• Constructing ramps, and form and shape stockpiles

• Grade, spread, and level ground and materials

• Shutdown and securing

• Loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation.

Teaching and assessment

• 9 days classroom learning and practical exercises

• 1-day CPCS technical tests.

What you get

• CPCS Trained Operator (red) Card if you pass the technical tests

• CITB National Construction College e-certificate available on request.

Entry requirements

1. CITB HS&E test passed in the last two years, or the new CPCS Plant Operative Health, Safety and Environment Test - NOCN Job Cards.

2. Good spoken and written English.

3. Valid form of ID. See accepted forms of ID.
