Course content

The course includes:

  • Legislation

  • Health & Safety

  • Shoring systems

  • Soil conditions

  • Effects of weather and water

  • Service drawings

  • Installation of shallow trench-shoring (verti-shore)

  • Push and dig with two frames 

  • Using CAT/drawings for locating cables

  • Installation of a trench box.

Classroom learning and and practical training

Tutor observation and written test

What you get

The college will apply on your behalf for the Energy and Utilities Skills Register (EUSR) card, endorsed with the Category 4 Excavation Scheme.

This card is valid for five years.

Entry requirements

  1. Reasonable mobility.

  2. Ability to lift and move loads.

  3. Good spoken and written English.

  4. Valid form of ID. See accepted forms of ID.
