This three-day training course introduces the essential instrumentation and techniques required to perform levelling and setting out. It is ideal for those with little or no previous experience of setting out.

Course content

The course includes:

  • Basic setting out calculations

  • Using automatic levels

  • Using HPC levels

  • Two peg test for level

  • Measuring angles and basic trigonometry

  • Setting out small projects using a theodolite (total station)

  • Formation profiles.

CITB National Construction College Certificate

You will also gain the confidence and ability to carry out basic setting out and levelling operations

Entry requirements

  1. Good spoken and written English.

  2. Good working knowledge of maths (specifically geometry and trigonometry).

  3. Physical ability to do manual work such as lifting and moving loads.

  4. Valid form of ID. See accepted forms of ID.
