This standard covers the principles of levelling and setting out by tape which can be applied to all aspects of construction including earthworks, roads, buildings, foundations, piles, structural steel, structures, reinforced concrete, and houses. Scope: Errors in Levelling and Taping Two peg test recording and calculating errors Levelling - recording Level survey of primary control stations and measure reduced levels (inverted readings and a level survey of a number of stations along a strip of land) Measure reduced levels Installing Temporary Benchmarks (TBMs) Calibration requirements and instrument checks – two peg test Setting up Profile boards for level excavation and drainage Calculating gradients - drainage and batter rails Taping – setting out rectangles and right angles on sloping ground

As a minimum, course instructors must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have: A train the trainer or instructional techniques course certificate Successfully completed training to this standard At least 2 years relevant industrial experience as a site engineer across a broad range of construction projects (civils, building etc.) and current experience / CPD in the use of modern topographical equipment A verifiable CV

Delivery may be in an on or off the job environment. All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for learners to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation. The class size and learner/instructor ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable learners to achieve the learning outcomes. The following delivery methods shall be used in the delivery of this standard:

• face to face learning environment only (Such As Classroom/Workshop etc.)
• a blend of face to face and virtual.

Informally Assessed For the successful completion of training, the trainer must be satisfied that the learner has achieved all learning outcomes and completed all practical assessments that measure the learning outcomes Methods of assessment considered appropriate for training delivered against this standard is:

• practical assessments

This training will be highly useful for Trainee and Graduate Engineers, Construction Managers, Site Managers, groundworkers, landscapers, builders, and anyone with direct experience of the construction industry who would like to broaden their skills.
