The construction industry has a poor record on mental health and the pandemic has shone an even brighter light on it. Physical health and safety are given significant priority in the construction industry however, given that suicide often kills more people than falls from height, there is a need for steps to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and improve the support available to workers.
This comprehensive study on mental health and wellbeing in construction highlights opportunities for industry to address shortcomings and improve wellbeing for workers.
Next steps
The research showed there is a strong evidence base – from across the sector – that a health indicator via a wellbeing dashboard is needed in terms of providing a focus on this critical topic and leveraging a stronger response from the industry.
