Project Summary

Challenge

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to transform construction, improving productivity, safety, quality, sustainability and project delivery. However, research shows the industry remains one of the least digitally mature sectors, with many businesses lacking the confidence, skills and knowledge needed to adopt AI effectively.

Many construction businesses are already aware of AI, but struggle to:

  • Understand where AI can add value to their operations

  • Identify suitable AI tools and technologies

  • Manage data securely and responsibly

  • Develop workforce confidence and digital capability

  • Turn AI potential into measurable business improvements

Without the right skills and guidance, the industry risks missing opportunities to improve productivity, reduce administrative burdens, enhance safety and strengthen competitiveness.

Solution

Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd along with the Supply Chain Sustainability School are developing the AI Construction Champion Programme, providing practical, construction-focused training to help businesses understand, evaluate and implement AI effectively.

The programme will include:

  • Digital Maturity and AI Readiness Assessments for organisations and individuals

  • 10 bite-sized micro-learning modules exploring AI use cases, risks and opportunities

  • 4 CPD-accredited training courses delivered through e-learning and instructor-led formats

  • Personalised learning and action plans tailored to business needs

  • The AI Construction Champion Course, supporting participants to implement AI within a real business process

Training will focus on real construction workflows, ensuring learning is relevant, practical and immediately applicable.

The programme will explore AI use cases including:

  • Tender and PQQ response development

  • RAMS and health & safety documentation

  • Design review and coordination

  • Project reporting and administration

  • Quality assurance and defect management

  • Sustainability and carbon reporting

  • Site diary and project records management

  • Data analysis and business intelligence

Participants will learn how to adopt AI safely, responsibly and effectively, regardless of the software platform they choose.
