Project Summary

Challenge

Poor quality workmanship and rework continue to have a significant impact on productivity across the construction industry. Research from the Get It Right Initiative estimates that quality-related issues can account for a substantial proportion of project costs leading to delays, wasted materials and reduced efficiency. Equans own analysis of Construction Quality Review data identified recurring quality issues on construction projects and highlighted the need for a more proactive approach to improving standards.

At the same time, the industry is facing growing demand for green skills and competence. Areas experiencing particularly high demand include retrofit, insulation systems, glazing and façades. Ensuring workers have access to accurate, timely and engaging learning resources is essential to improving productivity, reducing rework and supporting the delivery of quality outcomes.

Solution

Tribuco and Equans are developing a digital learning platform that provides workers with access to short, trade-specific training resources focused on quality standards, productivity and green construction skills. Delivered through the Tribuco application and supported by industry partners, the project aims to provide operatives with practical guidance at the point of work, through easily accessible mobile learning content.

The programme is creating a library of bite-sized videos, toolbox talks and learning bundles covering key topics including:

  • Introduction to green skills and retrofit

  • PAS 2035 and retrofit standards

  • Internal wall insulation (IWI)

  • External wall insulation (EWI)

  • Fabric-first approaches to energy efficiency

  • Building envelope and façade systems

  • Construction quality and behavioural competence

  • Quality assurance and productivity improvement techniques.

Alongside the learning content, the project is delivering industry engagement activities including roadshows, webinars, drop-in sessions and targeted communications campaigns to encourage adoption across the construction supply chain. The platform also provides valuable data and insights to help organisations identify common quality issues and target learning interventions where they can have the greatest impact.

To date, the project has developed multiple learning topics and video resources, engaged with colleges and employers, established partnerships with industry organisations and begun rolling out content to support quality improvement and green skills development across the sector.
