Skills and Training Fund
The CITB Skills & Training Fund for micro, small, and medium‑sized businesses closed on 30 September 2025. Any employer with a live Skills & Training Fund agreement will need to evidence that all of their funded training activity has taken place by October 2026.
From 8 January 2026 CITB introduced changes to the way training activity is supported, as a result some grants originally included in your funding application may no longer be available via the Grant Scheme route. A new process has been established for employers who have a live Skills & Training Fund agreement to ensure grant values listed in your original application are honoured.
To help us calculate your final funding amount correctly, we may need additional evidence at the completion stage of your funding agreement, outlined below.
Monitoring and completion of an existing project
If your short course training was achieved on or before 07 January 2026, or booked by 8 December 2025 and achieved by 31 March 2026, grants will still be available.
If your short course training was completed after 07 Jan 2026 and booked after 08 December 2026, grants will not be available. The Funding Team will arrange to honour any applicable grant (up to the value originally deducted in your application), so that you are not out of pocket. The amount will be calculated for you and confirmed at the completion stage.
For any short course training taking place by 31 March 2026, you may need to provide additional evidence such as the booking date or training completion date (if this is not shown on the invoice) in order for us to establish the grant position.
Please ensure you keep copies of all relevant documentation (such as invoices and booking correspondence) as these will be needed as evidence to confirm that the funding has been used appropriately.
As your funding agreement nears its expected end date / *quarterly review date, we will contact you with a reminder to email your evidence.

Please ensure that all collated evidence is sent to skills.training@citb.co.uk within 28 days of receiving that reminder.
What happens if circumstances change or you need an extension?
If you are experiencing any challenges with completing your planned training, please get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can discuss your available options.
Please note that, as the Skills and Training Fund is now closed, we cannot provide any additional funding beyond what has already been awarded, and your project cannot be extended beyond October 2026.
Pay up front & quarterly* payments
If your funding was paid upfront and you have been unable to fully utilise the approved funding, any underspend will need to be returned to CITB.

Pay at end
If your funding is scheduled to be paid upon completion of your training, we will confirm and release your payment once we have received and reviewed your evidence. Payments will be made to the bank account details provided in your original application. If your bank details have changed, it is your responsibility to notify us when responding to this email.
Please note: If you were approved in the September 2025 window, your funding will be issued as a single payment once all training has been completed and the required evidence has been submitted.
