New Grants Scheme from 1 April 2018

From 1 April 2018, our Grants Scheme will be changing what it supports, simplifying its processes, and over time provide greater support to help industry deal with skills gaps and shortages.

The types of grants available are listed below.

Advanced Craft Certificate grant (only available to Scottish employers)

We pay grants for learners' attendance and achievement a course that leads to the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Advanced Craft Certificate in a subject related to construction.

Apprenticeship grants

You can claim grants for individuals on approved apprenticeships at Levels 2 and 3, and higher apprenticeships in England and Wales.

You can claim grants for individuals on approved apprenticeships at SCQF Levels 5, 6, 7 & above in Scotland.

Construction work experience grants

We pay grants for the planned work experience that is an essential part of a construction-related degree.

More than 1-year qualifications: Long-period qualification grants

We pay grants for attending and achieving approved, higher level qualifications (lasting over 1 year) that are focused on core construction skills needed across the industry. These  include: HNCs and HNDs, degrees and post-graduate qualifications.

One-year or less qualifications: Short-period qualification grants

We pay grants for the achievement of approved short-period qualifications (lasting 1 year or less) that are focused on the core construction skills needed across the industry. These include NVQ and SVQ Levels 2 and above, as well as several other qualifications.

Plant training grants

We pay grants for the achievement of CITB approved plant training courses and qualifications. These include: specific plant-related VQ units as well as theory and practical testing.

Short duration course achievement grants

We pay grants for the achievement of approved short duration courses that last from 3 hours to 29 days.

Specialist Applied-skills Programme (SAP) grant

We pay grants for specialist applied-skills programmes (18-month courses comprising a number of related modules) that lead to a Level 2 or 3 National or Scottish Vocational Qualification (NVQ or SVQ).
