Phase 5 of CITB’s new plant training standards will see earthworks, cranes and demolition plant amongst the categories updated.
Due for launch in early 2027, the standards are being developed in collaboration with industry working groups consisting of employers, training providers and federations.
The changes will ensure employers see a return on their investment by producing competent, work-ready plant operators, who have received training from experts.
CITB and the Plant Sector Representative Organisation (PSRO) have been working together closely to standardise plant training across the construction industry. This has seen the introduction of short-course training standards for plant categories that reflect the increased requirements and responsibilities for plant operators.
Phase five will cover the following categories of plant:
Earthworks x 2
Cranes x 3
Demolition plant x 5
Tower cranes x 3 (moved from phase 4)
Crane/Lifting Operations Supervisor Training (moved from phase 4)
Please also note that the Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) standard will be launched on October 27, as the final plant category from phase 4.
