Event registration is now open for Open Doors 2027, giving construction organisations across the UK the opportunity to showcase their workplaces and inspire the industry’s future workforce.
Taking place throughout March 2027, Open Doors takes visitors behind the scenes at live construction sites, offices, factories and training centres.
Delivered by Build UK in partnership with CITB and the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), the initiative highlights the breadth of careers available across construction and shows what working in the industry is really like.
One visit can make a difference
For Molly McErlean, attending Open Doors helped turn an initial interest into a blossoming career.
“I got to talk to so many different people and realised quantity surveying was something that I really wanted to do,” she said. “In the space of a year, I went from being a visitor to helping to run Open Doors events.”
Stories such as Molly’s demonstrate the lasting effect that meeting people from industry and experiencing a working environment can have.
More than 6,500 people attended 240 events across the UK during Open Doors 2026, including students, trainees and people considering a career change. Following their visits, 81% of visitors said they were more likely to consider a career in construction.
Greater flexibility for employers
For 2027, Open Doors is moving from a single week to a month-long format. Organisations will be able to register their sites throughout March, providing greater flexibility over when and how they participate.
Employers can open a live construction site or welcome visitors into an office, factory or training centre. By introducing visitors to the people, technology and skills behind their work, hosts can help challenge perceptions of construction and highlight career paths that many people may not have considered.
It is also an opportunity for employers to build connections with their local communities and encourage more people to explore the jobs and training opportunities available in their area.
Organisations of different sizes and from every part of the industry can participate. Employers across the UK are encouraged to register, with a particular focus on creating more opportunities for visitors in Scotland and Wales.
CITB supporting Open Doors
CITB will once again be taking part, with events planned at our National Construction College sites at Bircham Newton, Inchinnan and Erith.
Through our partnership with Build UK and CSCS, CITB is supporting Open Doors to help more people understand the opportunities available across construction and connect employers with the workforce of the future.
