Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) - Refresher course: Site Safety Plus

This is a two-day refresher of our full Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course.

It updates your knowledge of your responsibilities for site safety, health, welfare and the environment.

Students must already have a valid SMSTS certificate that has not yet expired. Passing this refresher course will extend your certificate for another five years.

Course content 

The course includes:

  • Current focus points for the Health and Safety Executive
  • Risk assessment and method statements
  • Construction site health, safety and welfare
  • Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR)
  • Behavioural safety
  • Occupational health
  • Overview and changes to the current legislation affecting construction.

Teaching and assessment 

Teaching involves classroom-based discussion, case studies, group work and presentations.

Students must attend all 15 hours as per the Site Safety Plus attendance requirements.

There will be a multiple-choice test.

What you get

Renewal of existing CITB Site Safety Plus Certificate (valid for five years)*

You will also gain an understanding of the following:

  • Health and safety on construction sites
  • Related welfare and environmental issues.

The course price includes publications, registration, certification, lunch and refreshments.

*This certificate must be renewed every five years before it expires by attending the SMSTS Refresher course. Otherwise, you will need to take the full SMSTS course again.

Entry requirements

  1. A valid SMSTS certificate from the last five years. You must take this course before your certificate expires.
  2. Good spoken and written English.
  3. Valid form of ID. See accepted forms of ID.
  4. Test re-sits must take place within 90 days of the original course date (at an additional charge).
