A 10-day course on the operation of a crawler crane above 10 tonnes - no experience needed.

If you pass the technical tests, we apply for the CPCS Trained Operator (red) Card on your behalf.

Course content

Operating the crane safely and efficiently
Responding to recognised crane signals
Positioning the crane
Altering jib lengths and associated safety devices
Carrying out routine maintenance and making minor adjustments
Understanding safe-load indicators and duties
Basic theory of power units, transmission systems, and control systems
Programming safe-load indicators
Understanding the effects of radius change on the safe working capacity
Statutory regulations and Codes of Practice
Effect of shock loading on structural strength, stability, and load displacement
Recognising the principles of safe slinging and the types and capacities of chains, slings, and lifting gear.

Teaching and assessment

9 days classroom learning and practical exercises
1-day CPCS technical tests.

CITB National Construction College e-certificate available on request.

Entry requirements

CITB HS&E test passed in the last two years, or the new CPCS Plant Operative Health, Safety and Environment Test - NOCN Job Cards
Good spoken and written English.
