The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) hosts its next Skills and Training Conference at the Marriott Hotel in Cardiff on January 28. The event will be packed full of engaging workshops and talks from key members of CITB’s executive and senior leadership team, including Tim Balcon, CEO, Deb Madden, Executive Director Customer Engagement and Operations, and Julia Stevens, Engagement Director Wales.

CITB continues its partnership with Open Doors as part of its commitment around new entrants and bridging the construction skills gap. A career in construction provides lifelong opportunities to learn and higher than average salaries, and people interested in joining the industry are now able to book to attend Open Doors 2026, which returns from Monday 23 to Saturday 28 March.

The registrations for SkillBuild, the UK’s largest and longest-running multi-trade skills competition, delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), are now open. SkillBuild invites the UK’s top construction trainee talent, skilled learners and apprentices to battle it out to be crowned winners of their chosen trade.

The UK’s top construction trainee talent gathered in Milton Keynes this week to compete at the SkillBuild National Final 2025, delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). The 80 participants went head-to-head over three days, with the winners from each of the 10 construction trades being announced at last night’s awards ceremony.

Social value in construction goes beyond the project. It’s about creating lasting benefits for communities. From apprenticeships and local hiring to sustainability and community engagement, today’s projects are expected to deliver outcomes beyond buildings. Embedding these principles isn’t just good practice; it’s becoming a core requirement for tenders and a marker of industry leadership – however, it will require industry collaboration to prove successful.
