Department for Work and Pensions launches consultation on CITB and ECITB forming a single body
The consultation opened on Monday 23 March and will run for 12 weeks. It is seeking views on the Government’s proposal to bring together CITB and ECITB, to create a single, unified Industry Training Board (ITB) to act on behalf of the construction and engineering construction sectors.

Construction and Engineering Week 2025 gets into full swing
One of the largest ever skills events kicked off yesterday (23 September) at Lincolnshire Showground. Over three days (Tuesday 23 to Thursday 25 September) more than 1,500 school children, aged between 10 and 18 years, will get a hands-on introduction to vital trades such as carpentry, bricklaying, block paving, electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as virtual reality welding.

UK Plant Operator of the Year 2025: The Results
The UK Plant Operator of the Year (UKPO) 2025 took place at CITB’s National Construction College (NCC) in Bircham Newton, Norfolk, on Saturday 6 September. The competition brought together the best plant operator competitors, global manufacturers, national and regional plant hirers and contractors from across the UK, with the overall winner collecting the grand prize of £10,000 from a total prize pot of £20,000.

Youngest competitor is an apprentice of the National Construction College
NCC apprentice Josh Burnett, 17, will be the youngest of 60 entrants competing for the title UK Plant Operator of the Year, to be judged on 6 September. Josh, who recently completed his SQA Level 2 Diploma in Plant Operations Apprenticeship at the National Construction College in Norfolk, now works full time as Plant Operator at Corrigan Contractors Ltd on the West Coast of Scotland.
