The project will overcome the practical barriers to delivering work experience and increase the appeal of working within the industry by designing a week of work experience activity that any construction contractor can download and put into practise.

The activity will provide a ‘real life’ project, and a taster of a range of careers. It will link to the curriculum in a range of ways including maths, design technology, science, geography, citizenship and English.

The project will undertake research by carrying out pilot studies and business mapping, to evaluate the people and business readiness for BIM, resulting in a business case for further investment in people, process innovation, collaborative working, cultural change, training, systems and new design software technology.

At the end of the project a report will contribute to industry's understanding of how to implement BIM by means of building a strong business case for adoption. The benefits of BIM, particularly in housing, will be recorded in a PowerPoint presentation available on request from Stewart Milne.

The project will research and pilot a scheme to increase apprenticeship numbers, and raise the standards in the Shop Fitting sector by developing a framework of excellence and building a network that can deliver flexible training from the framework.

After the project the woodworking sector will have access to new standardised training through a network of training hubs. Access will increase over time as the network of centres of excellence grows. The framework of excellence that standardises training will be available from those hubs.

The project will develop a 'Carbon Coach Course', this course will be a comprehensive skills programme for construction apprenticeships, introducing the topic of carbon reduction and best practice energy management to attendees.

The project will equip the industry to respond to the 2025 objective 'Driving Carbon out of the Built Environment 2025'.

The project will provide new competency based training materials which have been prioritised due to immediate demand from industry. These training materials will be available for electronic use.

These workbooks will be used specifically to support the delivery of the new Scottish Modern Apprenticeship programmes in Timber Frame Manufacture and Design, and to increase the skills, capability and capacity of the timber frame manufacturing using modern methods of construction.

After the project, the workbooks will be available to download from the Structural Timber Association website for industry to access and use.

Small employers often lack the skills to deliver corporate social responsibility, and so can miss the benefits to themselves and the community, including winning new contracts.

The project will develop and deliver an online diagnostic tool that identifies an organisation’s maturity in terms of corporate social responsibility.

This will help to develop participating employers’ skills and capacity in this area.

The project will develop training essential to the upskilling of flood industry professionals in the area of Property Level Protection (PLP) The training will support employers working in Flood Protection. The project will pilot newly developed training materials and look to introduce an examination process leading to a certificated qualification.

The Right to Work project is aimed at providing construction businesses, and their entire supply chain with accessible training on how to check the ‘right to work’ status of all their employees thereby preventing illegal working and any modern slavery/trafficking activities.

The method for communicating this information will be via video. This video can be hosted on the CITB website or CITB YouTube channels, allowing access to everyone in the industry, large or small.

The project will develop fire safety information in response to calls for additional measures, following industry failures to meet CDM responsibilities in this area.

A video will be developed on fire safety and hosted on the Structural Timber Association (STA) website.

The project will develop a series of broadcast quality training videos explaining heritage plastering techniques for new and existing operators.

The funding will produce four modules covering the basics of heritage and plastering techniques.
