This project addresses the issues of supply and demand in multi-skilled training by:

• Increasing the quality of provision and capacity to train
• Raising awareness of the potential of multi-skilling to tackle strategic industry priorities
• Deliver quantifiable business and employee benefits.

The project is based on Hire Association Europe’s objective to invest in new technologies and make training more readily accessible to a wider audience using innovative solutions including 360 degree video, 3D animation, Virtual and Augmented reality and Oculus Rift. 

Project delivery methods will include online, mobile, tablet and virtual reality.  Topics will cover all of the construction industries key areas.

After the project, the 12 modules will be released through HAE tool hire depots so that VR training inductions can be delivered to customers and logged on a learner management system. The 12 modules and their digital assets will also be published through HAE's 'Project pHAEton' which will create a content creation and learning platform as part of CITB's Immersive Learning commission.

The project responds to a need to conduct research into the Plant sector to better understand the number of plant operators, and the degree of entry to – exit from the labour force.

The project will use this research to gain better data which can be used for planning and implementing recruitment and upskilling programmes in both general and specialist areas.

The Right to Work project is aimed at providing construction businesses, and their entire supply chain with accessible training on how to check the ‘right to work’ status of all their employees thereby preventing illegal working and any modern slavery/trafficking activities.

The method for communicating this information will be via video. This video can be hosted on the CITB website or CITB YouTube channels, allowing access to everyone in the industry, large or small.

The project will deliver eight days of training spread over one year aimed at: stone industry new entrants; those with a general construction background who need understanding of working with natural stone; time-served masons/restorers/operatives progressing into management roles.

The project will address recent significant demand to utilise new technological advances in CNC machinery in Shopfitting, Interior Construction and Wood Machining sectors.

After the project, the skills gap in CNC operation will be reduced as CNC operators are given the skills they need to carry out their work.

The project will address the challenge that the NDTG does not have a Demolition Manager Refresher Course in place to address the looming skills gap in our sector due to expiring CSCS cards.

In order to fill this gap, the demolition industry needs to develop a fit for purpose Demolition Manager Refresher Course. The course will be piloted to ensure that it fits the requirements of demolition managers in today’s construction Industry.

This programme will work with SME Tier 1 contractors to identify ten construction projects which will be delivered incorporating BIM technologies and processes across the supply chain.

It will develop and deliver a baseline maturity assessment for collaborative working and BIM, identify the skills and training required to deliver a live BIM project; creating the technical and cultural environment to develop, implement and manage a common data environment on the projects, incorporate BIM and Lean principles to ensure effective and efficient project delivery.

After the project, a skills diagnostic will be available for construction employers to discover the BIM maturity of their organisation. The tool will go on to signpost to training, based on Government BIM standards, to address gaps. A leadership programme will be available to undertake BIM transformation in construction businesses. Additional support will be available in best practice documentation. These materials will have been tested through the supply chains of 10 Tier 1 contractors.

The project will pilot a Level 3 course developed through a year-long delivery programme. It will include a joint collaboration between the FMB, the National Trust, and Edwards Hart Consulting.  

The objective is to increase the level of knowledge and understanding on how to apply energy efficient improvements to traditional and older buildings and building methods. These buildings represent more than 25% of the UK's building stock, amongst the mainstream general building sector.

After the project, the SQA L3 Award will be available to industry from the SQA website.

The project will develop a sustainable model for specialist infrastructure training provision, creating a structured framework that allows employees in the sector to develop the core skills that they require to operate in key roles in the sector where skills shortages currently exist. The end-state will be a self-sustaining training model that is developed by industry, for industry; providing targeted training that would not otherwise be readily available for companies in the sector.
