Project summary:

The project will train five staff to CAA (pilots for drones) standard. The purpose of the project is to negate the need for staff to work at extreme height whilst carrying out roof work inspections working at height is high risk. Therefore; we look to reduce staff working at height, thereby negate the risk apportioned to them This project will allow us to increase the number of roof inspections carried out by us. Resulting in upskilled staff and increased work outputs.

The project will address recent significant demand to utilise new technological advances in CNC machinery in Shopfitting, Interior Construction and Wood Machining sectors.

Project summary:

The project will expand on previous work completed and will produce a series of Timber Frame Competency Award Scheme booklets

The Silver level will initially be completed(bronze and gold to follow).  

At present there is no way of auditing people's involvement. Therefore this project will deliver a self-certification process online.

After the project these documents will be made available on the STA web site for industry to download and use, helping to standardise skills within the structural timber sector.

The project will address the challenge that the NDTG does not have a Demolition Manager Refresher Course in place to address the looming skills gap in our sector due to expiring CSCS cards.

In order to fill this gap, the demolition industry needs to develop a fit for purpose Demolition Manager Refresher Course. The course will be piloted to ensure that it fits the requirements of demolition managers in today’s construction Industry.

Digital Construction BIM: The Next Generation

Project summary:

This programme will work with SME Tier 1 contractors to identify ten construction projects which will be delivered incorporating BIM technologies and processes across the supply chain.

It will develop and deliver a baseline maturity assessment for collaborative working and BIM, identify the skills and training required to deliver a live BIM project; creating the technical and cultural environment to develop, implement and manage a common data environment on the projects, incorporate BIM and Lean principles to ensure effective and efficient project delivery.

After the project, a skills diagnostic will be available for construction employers to discover the BIM maturity of their organisation. The tool will go on to signpost to training, based on Government BIM standards, to address gaps. A leadership programme will be available to undertake BIM transformation in construction businesses. Additional support will be available in best practice documentation. These materials will have been tested through the supply chains of 10 Tier 1 contractors.

Project summary:

The project will pilot a Level 3 course developed through a year-long delivery programme. It will include a joint collaboration between the FMB, the National Trust, and Edwards Hart Consulting.  

The objective is to increase the level of knowledge and understanding on how to apply energy efficient improvements to traditional and older buildings and building methods. These buildings represent more than 25% of the UK's building stock, amongst the mainstream general building sector.

After the project, the SQA L3 Award will be available to industry from the SQA website.

The project will develop a sector infrastructure that will define how we attract, train and retain a skilled and professional workforce sufficient to build over 1 million new homes in the next 5 years.

By engaging up to 100 homebuilders and targeting specific occupations, and with the support and leadership of the homebuilders. The project will create and develop an industry-responsive infrastructure which will communicate the benefits of smart recruitment, training and retaining to up to 3,500 homebuilders and homebuilding supply chain companies across the UK.

The Infrastructure 21 project is a cross-industry collaboration that focuses on ensuring that the UK’s infrastructure supply chain has the competence and capacity to deliver a 50% increase in output in the next five years. It will develop and deliver upskilling for supply chain firms, targeted directly at those areas identified by industry as priorities through an extensive industry survey.

The project will develop a sustainable model for specialist infrastructure training provision, creating a structured framework that allows employees in the sector to develop the core skills that they require to operate in key roles in the sector where skills shortages currently exist.
