This 10-day course is for people who have held a CISRS Trainee Scaffolder or Labourer card for three months.
The course teaches the core skills of scaffolding. It covers how to safely erect, alter and dismantle basic scaffolding structures.
Those who pass the course will get the CISRS Scaffolding Part 1 Certificate.
Course content
The course includes:
- Safely erect independent and putlog scaffolds with returns, towers and birdcage scaffolds, in tube and fitting or proprietary systems
- Determine the material requirements for independents and putlog with returns, towers, and birdcage scaffolds in tube and fitting or proprietary systems
- Lay out materials, including hoists and lowering with the use of a gin wheel
- Statutory regulations (TG20) and safe systems of work set out in the Safety Guidance Note 4 (SG4)
- Interpret simple drawings
- Understand the basics of tie testing
- Make alterations and adaptations to scaffolds.

- Current CISRS Trainee or Labourers Scaffolders card held for at least three months before the course start date.
- Comfortable working at heights.
- Able to work in teams.
- Moderate physical fitness.
- Good spoken and written English.
