Parker scoops gold with help from CITB

Welsh construction firm Parker Plant Hire has won the prestigious ‘Investors in People’ gold standard (Advanced level) award.

The Llanelli-based family business received the globally-renowned accolade for, “defining what it takes to lead, support and manage people effectively to achieve sustainable results.”

The Company, which has an onsite training facility at its HQ in Llanelli, credits their long-standing relationship with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) as a major factor in their success.

The CITB has funded and assisted Parker Plant’s skills needs for many years. Support has included: Leadership and Management training, Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) card accreditation, development planning and an apprenticeship scheme.

Advanced gold status is rare. Just 2% of assessed organisations across the world achieve this standard. The Investors in People award ranks Parker Plant in the top 20 management organisations in the world in their relevant award level and size band.

The Company attributes its success to looking after clients’ needs, teamwork and continuous self-improvement.

Commenting on the award, Parker Plant Hire Managing Director George Parker said: “The core values underpinning our Company are satisfying clients’ needs.  We recognise that our main asset is our people and, that winning is a team effort. These values carry us through our journey of continuous improvement; we work as a diverse, fair and happy team and ensure best practice in everything we do. We have worked closely and productively with CITB Wales and we also support the local community through charitable work and donations. I’d like to offer a huge thank you to everyone who helped us win this award.”

CITB’s South Wales Local Manager Rachel Ferriman said: “CITB has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Parker Plant, which is why we were delighted to see George and the Team win this great award. The Company strives to look after its workforce by providing regular training and inspiring a spirit of teamwork. It’s particularly good to see the Company acknowledge the role older workers play and the investment make in their training: 40% of the workforce is over 50 years of age, which makes Parker Plant a great mentoring organisation too. Well done from everyone at CITB Wales.”

Head of Investors in People (IIP) Paul Devoy said: “We’d like to congratulate Parker Plant Hire. IIP accreditation is the sign of a great employer, committed to achieving success by realising the potential of its people. The Company should be extremely proud of its achievement.”
