CITB is the Industry Training Board for construction and its mission is to “attract and support the development of people to construct a better Britain”. Our vision is for British construction to have a recognised, world-class, innovative approach to developing its workforce to deliver quality in the built environment.
Our strategies are developed according to our behaviours; Team, Accountability, Customer, Adaptability and Leadership.
CITB is committed to the delivery of our products and services and to manage our operations in a responsible manner. We will develop and continually improve our approach to Corporate Responsibility to ensure that our policies and initiatives address relevant issues appropriately therefore this policy applies to all colleagues including directors, senior managers; agency staff; and anyone working on behalf of CITB.
There are many definitions for Corporate Responsibility but the most common is one that recognises the impacts of delivering the core business, maximising the positive impacts and reducing the negative impacts. It is also recognised as “the voluntary actions that we can take over and above compliance with minimum legal requirements”. It contributes to sustainable development which is about how we take account of economic, social and environmental impacts of the business.
CITB defines corporate responsibility as:
“the management and improvement of the positive impacts on society and environment through our operations, products and services and through our interaction with our stakeholders”.
CITB will commit to integrating CR into our strategies and plans, involving all parts of the business. CR encapsulates expectations that CITB will demonstrate responsible business practices and acceptable behaviours.
Our Corporate Responsibility strategy aims to support the development of initiatives and improvements that measure performance across the business, enabling CR to become embedded. To add value and deliver real benefits to the core business, corporate responsibility is aligned with our vision, mission, and behaviours and integrated into our strategy and business planning processes. We will formalise targets to reduce our impacts and develop suitable methods of measuring our performance and reporting on an annual basis.
To successfully embed core CR principles into One CITB by having appropriate policies and initiatives to bring a consistent approach to material issues that impact across the organisation and therefore strengthening our position within our sector.
