Find an apprenticeship

Becoming an apprentice can be the start of a career that lasts a lifetime

The first thing you should do is find out which career you are interested in. There are over 100 different apprenticeships in construction, ranging from hands-on things like bricklaying, plastering or flooring to more technical, planning, or supervisory roles.

Entry Level Requirements

There are often entry level requirements for apprenticeships, but don’t worry if you haven’t met the requirements, there are still options available.

You could complete a foundation (Level 1) and / or progression (Level 2) full-time trade course with your local college or training provider. This could then lead into an apprenticeship with an employer.

If you have met the entry requirements for an apprenticeship course you won’t need to complete the foundation and/or progression first.

Your college, training provider or university will list course entry criteria on their website.

Getting started

  1. Visit the construction apprenticeships section of the Go Construct website for more information on how to find an apprenticeship, roles available and real-life stories of those already in the industry.
  2. Look for opportunities on sites such as Talentview, Apprenticeships.scot or Apprenticeship Vacancy Service
  3. If you are offered an interview, research the company and think of questions that you could ask them
  4. Dress smartly for your interview and aim to arrive at least 15 minutes before your interview time to give your potential employer a good impression.
