The project will research and pilot a scheme to increase apprenticeship numbers, and raise the standards in the Shop Fitting sector by developing a framework of excellence and building a network that can deliver flexible training from the framework.
After the project the woodworking sector will have access to new standardised training through a network of training hubs. Access will increase over time as the network of centres of excellence grows. The framework of excellence that standardises training will be available from those hubs.

End of project summary
The project finished in March 2018. By the end of the project a pilot Centres of Excellence network had been established with four training providers which has led to improved networking and the development of new courses which respond to employer needs.
The intention is to continue the Centre of Excellence roll-out over the next 12 months to increase to a minimum of 15 training providers, covering all regions and home nations.
