Project summary:

The 2018 Gender Pay Gap reports for Construction showed that women earn 21.8% less than men on average. Women into Construction will work with Bam Nutall, Bouygues, Ardmore Construction, other Tier 1 construction companies and their supply chains to identify barriers, challenge employers’ working practices, behaviours and cultural norms.

WiC will deliver advice and guidance, training and mentoring to support low-paid female construction workers progress into better paid, more secure employment in the future

The project will tackle skills shortages and increase the amount of training activity within Northamptonshire by providing the most common training programmes at a flat rate of £10 per course to employers. This project is the development of a training and accreditation scheme for ecological clerks of works on construction sites (Site Ecologists). Clients, contractors and the ecology profession will work collaboratively to agree the required competencies and set standards. A comprehensive training and assessment programme leading to accredited status will enable a sustainable supply of confident and well-trained ecological clerks of works able to meet the increasing supply needs of the construction industry.

This project is focussed on mentoring in order to support the retention of new entrants.

The project will:

  • Provide 100 new entrants with a mentor
  • Train 100 Level 3 apprentices as mentors
  • Train 100 industry representatives as mentors
  • Produce two best practice guidebooks - one for mentors and one for mentees
  • Produce a video case study.
The Breakfast Club (commission)

Project summary:

Developed in partnership with key contractors, who are all SMEs, the Breakfast Club will deliver eight bespoke interactive training and personal development sessions for 48 new industry entrants (4 cohorts of 12) over a 15-month period. 

Running concurrently as a controlled programme alongside the regular intake of new employees, the project will deliver evidence-based comparisons as to the benefit of the bespoke additional interventions for the retention of new entrants.

Project summary:

The Think Build project is a pilot programme adapted from the award-winning Think Logistics programme set up in 2014 as a partnership between several logistics firms and the charity Career Ready.

Its aim is to provide an effective method of employer engagement in schools. Industry volunteers deliver workshops to younger teenagers, leading to an in-depth programme of mentoring, masterclasses and work placements for 16-18 year olds.

Project summary:

The programme will create a publically shared rubric built on VINCI best practices for the industry to use to upskill their job families in BIM. This is in response to the ambitious 2025 Construction Strategy which aims to achieve 33% reductions in costs and a 50% increase in efficiency through full BIM integration.

After the project, 14 short-duration e-learning modules will be freely available to use by industry. BIM ambassadors will be upskilled to champion the use of BIM in construction roles and promote the modules. A BIM framework will be developed that will go on to inform CITB activity in identifying and standardising digital competencies.

Project summary:

The project seeks to address the common problems of duplication, waste, errors and inefficiencies that impact upon an organisation’s productivity and profitability. 

An industry-specific app will be developed and made available to the sector to integrate back office functions with external sites. This will include all job functions from enquiry, and planning, to job completion.

After the project the BPL workforce will have the skills to implement productivity efficiencies using the developed app, which will be hosted on app stores to download.

The project will pilot digital skills development for small building and construction companies (employing up to 20 people) delivering skills to compete and run businesses in a digital environment.

Knowledge improvements in: online promotion; developing online reputation; generating sales; winning new contracts; economical back-office processes; increase in online transactions; cyber security; increasing brand awareness.

After the project, 50 SMEs will be able to implement use of simple digital technologies in their business, making efficiencies and productivity gains. Training materials will be freely available to industry.
