This project will produce 5 individual demolition specific sets of guidance notes. These guidance notes will be used by the Federation members and the wider industry to assist in ensuring that the knowledge of existing demolition sector staff including new employees is up to date providing access to clear, concise and current guidance notes, which ensure continued safe working and good practice.

The project will provide new competency based training materials which have been prioritised due to immediate demand from industry. These training materials will be available for electronic use.

These workbooks will be used specifically to support the delivery of the new Scottish Modern Apprenticeship programmes in Timber Frame Manufacture and Design, and to increase the skills, capability and capacity of the timber frame manufacturing using modern methods of construction.

After the project, the workbooks will be available to download from the Structural Timber Association website for industry to access and use.

The project will build expertise in senior management through the IEMA Accredited Environmental Awareness course and use this expertise to develop and deploy be-spoke short-duration courses.

The training will adopt a modular structure to target particular specialisms.  Developing modules rather than block courses allows the company to efficiently target specific job roles and remove non-essential content not relevant to the audience.

After the project the environmental awareness course will be developed and freely available upon request.  10 employers will have received the benefit of the training.

This project addresses the issues of supply and demand in multi-skilled training by:

• Increasing the quality of provision and capacity to train
• Raising awareness of the potential of multi-skilling to tackle strategic industry priorities
• Deliver quantifiable business and employee benefits.

This project was commissioned to provide empirical evidence of the scale of the skills gap and skills shortage in the profession of the Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).

The availability of ECoW has not historically been measured nor their competence assessed. As a result, there is concern that skills gaps and potential skills shortages in this area could exist.

The project responds to a need to conduct research into the Plant sector to better understand the number of plant operators, and the degree of entry to – exit from the labour force.

The project will use this research to gain better data which can be used for planning and implementing recruitment and upskilling programmes in both general and specialist areas.

The Right to Work project is aimed at providing construction businesses, and their entire supply chain with accessible training on how to check the ‘right to work’ status of all their employees thereby preventing illegal working and any modern slavery/trafficking activities.

The method for communicating this information will be via video. This video can be hosted on the CITB website or CITB YouTube channels, allowing access to everyone in the industry, large or small.

The project will increase access to the right training for fitters/plant mechanics in the tool hire industry.

The current level 3 NVQ plant maintenance qualification, whilst relevant to our sector, concentrates on larger equipment the Service Tech training will focus specifically on small hand held tools and equipment hire. In turn this will reduce skills shortages and reduce skills gaps.

At the end of the project, the training content will be available through National Occupational Standards for 'Small plant and tool maintenance' specialist up-skilling programme.

The project will expand on previous work completed and will produce a series of Timber Frame Competency Award Scheme booklets

The Silver level will initially be completed(bronze and gold to follow).  

At present there is no way of auditing people's involvement. Therefore this project will deliver a self-certification process online.

After the project these documents will be made available on the STA web site for industry to download and use, helping to standardise skills within the structural timber sector.

The project will develop fire safety information in response to calls for additional measures, following industry failures to meet CDM responsibilities in this area.

A video will be developed on fire safety and hosted on the Structural Timber Association (STA) website.
