A 2-day condensed course for experienced operators of ride-on road rollers who need a formal qualification. Pass the technical tests and you get your CPCS Trained Operator (red) Card.

Course content
- Understand operator responsibilities, site safety, and relevant regulations (PUWER, LOLER, CDM)
- Identify roller components, controls, safety systems, and working limits
- Perform daily pre-use inspections, checks, and basic maintenance
- Mount, dismount, and operate the roller safely
- Manoeuvre and control the roller on different surfaces, slopes, and gradients
- Compact materials efficiently, achieving correct density and surface finish
- Work safely around other plant, personnel, and site hazards
- Recognise ground conditions, obstructions, and environmental risks
- Conduct safe shutdown, parking, and securing procedures
- Prepare for CPCS theory and practical assessments.
Teaching and assessment
- 1 day classroom learning and practical exercises
- 1 day CPCS technical tests.

- CITB HS&E test passed within the last two years, or the new CPCS Plant Operative Health, Safety and Environment Test - NOCN Job Cards
- Good spoken and written English
