Overview

The purpose of this standard is to provide the delegate with an understanding of the impact of legislation, regulation and industry guidance relating to the role responsibilities of the Principal Contractor under the Building Safety Act, And the Safety and integrity of Residential Buildings.

Standard Overview

The purpose of this standard is to provide the delegate with an understanding of the impact of legislation, regulation and industry guidance relating to the role responsibilities of the Principal Contractor under the Building Safety Act, And the Safety and integrity of Residential Buildings.

Scope:

  • interpret legislation, regulation, Codes of Practice, and guidance related to Building Safety. Understand outline purpose.
  • describe the role, responsibilities, and obligations of building safety Duty holders and define requirements
  • manage building safety Competence, Risks, and Information
  • contribute to successful Gateway achievements. 1, 2 & 3 along with building registration certificates
  • manage the quality of building safety work. Quality Management Systems, Inspection, and testing strategies
  • management of the Supply Chain. Commercial relationships, quality, and budgeting
  • management of building works. Leading Production, consulting experts, and leading the team

Learner pre-requisites

Learner must be in a Technical, Construction or Commercial Management role.

Instruction/ supervision

As a minimum, course trainers must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have:

  • an award in education and training (or equivalent, as per requirements for approved training organisations)
  • at least 2 years industrial experience relevant to the scope of the standard
  • a verifiable CV

Delivery Materials

All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for Learner to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation.

The learning environment, class size and learner/trainer ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable learners to achieve the learning outcomes.

The following delivery methods may be used in the delivery of this standard:

  • Primarily - face to face learning environment only (such as classroom/workshop etc.)
  • Virtual only (guided learning on-line)
  • a blend of face to face and virtual

This standard is predominantly theoretical training.

This standard is considered to be set at an intermediate level.

Assessment Pass / Fail Criteria

For the successful completion of training, the trainer must be satisfied that the learner has engaged fully with the content of the course, has contributed to syndicate work, and participated positively during Q&A sessions.

Methods of assessment considered appropriate for training delivered against this standard are:

  • observed oral presentations / briefings
  • scenarios and case studies of realistic working environments

the trainer must be satisfied that the learner has achieved all learning outcomes

  • identify how Building Act enables building regulations and building control safety
  • outline the component sections of the Building Safety Act
  • identify the importance of approved documents
  • understand the importance of the Golden Thread
  • outline all other associations (expand if necessary, including legislation/regulation in the pipeline)

Describe the role, responsibilities, and obligations of building safety Duty holders

Delivery guidance:

  • define the role of the Client in terms of building safety
  • define the role of the Principal Designer in terms of building safety and adhere to the gateway regime
  • define the role of the Principal Contractor in terms of building safety and contribute to the Golden Thread
  • define the role of the Designer in terms of building safety
  • define the role of the Contractor in terms of building safety
  • define the role of the Accountable Person
  • define the role of the Responsible Person

Manage building safety competence

Delivery guidance:

  • assess building safety competence requirements
    • identify project requirements
    • identify task competence requirements
    • assess qualification requirements of individuals carrying out tasks
    • assess organisational experience and competencies of Supply Chain
    • identify sources of individual competence information and evidence

  • develop building safety competencies
    • ensure relevant manufacturers training is completed
    • identify qualification requirements for individuals
    • identify additional training requirements of individuals
    • coach and mentor individuals
    • assess performance and provide feedback
    • identify other sources of training

  • maintain competency records
    • interrogate Learning Management Systems/ Learning Record Stores
    • assess relevance of qualifications
    • describe information found on CSCS cards
    • maintain records of completed manufacturers training

Manage building safety risks and hazards

Delivery guidance:

  • identify risks to building safety
  • describe the different building safety risks including but not limited to:
    • physical
    • legal
    • reputational
    • financial
  • identify prescribed hazards
  • define methods to manage building safety risks
  • manage changes that may affect building safety
  • implement systems for Mandatory Occurrence Reporting

Contribute to successful Gateway achievements
