This apprenticeship course is for people who want to gain an academic qualification in lightning conductor engineering, while gaining professional experience.

You’ll learn how to carry out repairs, maintenance and renovation work on high structures, such as industrial chimneys, power station cooling towers, church spires and bridges.

You’ll also need to be prepared to work at height, using ladders, scaffolding, mobile work platforms (cradles), bosun’s seats (harnesses) and industrial ropes (abseiling).

  • You may also gain value-added qualifications in first aid and health and safety, along with other industry-specific subjects.

Entry requirements

Academic

No formal requirements, but it’s useful to have GCSE grades A*-C in English, maths, sciene, design and technology.

If you applied for your aprenticeship through the Skills Funding Agency, only applicants aged between 16 and18 who have not been placed on a training scheme before are guaranteed full funding.
