Overview

This free fire safety in buildings course has been developed in partnership with Build UK and fire industry experts and is designed to improve an individual’s knowledge of fire safety measures in buildings. The course is suitable for anyone working in the design, construction, or maintenance of buildings, with a specific focus on installers.

Standard detail

This is a FREE eLearning course that underpins all Competence Frameworks.

The purpose of this standard is to provide the delegate with the knowledge and/or skills to support the following:

  • What constitutes a Higher Risk Building
  • The Building Safety Act & key roles
  • Compartmentation, its purpose and how it works
  • The elements of a building that prevent fires from starting in the first place e.g. Non-combustible materials
  • The elements of a building that prevent fires from spreading and how they do that
  • Passive fire protection
  • Active fire protection
  • Protected escape routes
  • The need for competence as an individual
  • The importance of quality workmanship
  • The need to install elements correctly & the consequences when they are not installed correctly
  • Individuals’ responsibility to act in accordance with training and instructions given
  • The implications of breaching or interfering with fire protection measures (passive or active) already installed
  • The importance of reporting issues & how to do this
