Short-period qualifications grants

We pay grants for the achievement of approved short-period qualifications that are focused on the core construction skills needed across the industry.

This grant pays for the achievement of approved short-period qualifications in core construction skills. These include:

  • NVQ and SVQ Levels 2 and above
  • National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety.

Qualifications can be delivered in a number of ways as defined within the approved standard, including:

  • off-the-job
  • through on-site assessment (OSAT)
  • through experienced worker practical assessment (EWPA)
  • by distance and e-learning
  • outside conventional working hours (evenings or weekends)

Short-period qualifications grants are not available to support individual achievements that form part of long-period qualifications or apprenticeships.

Who can claim

You can claim if you’re registered with us and meet our general grant scheme eligibility requirements

This grant is available for all directly employed Pay As You Earn (PAYE) staff and all sub-contractors.

Which courses are eligible? 

See a full list of courses with accompanying standards. Please be aware that there are some courses for which a full standard is being developed. 

Under our transitional arrangements, you can also claim an achievement grant for short-period qualifications that are not supported within the 2018/2019 grants scheme year, if:

  • they were supported during the 2017/2018 grants scheme year, and
  • they are achieved before 31 July 2018. 

How much is it?

You can claim £600 for each achievement, up to a maximum of 2 achievements at each level per individual. You can only claim once for an individual on the same achievement.

How to claim

In the near future, Grant will be paid automatically for short-period qualifications achieved through a CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO).

In the meantime, there are interim arrangements for claiming and receiving grant support. You will need to fill out a claim form within 3 months of the qualification date.

Please note: the grant form for the interim arrangements will be available in April 2018. 

Once automated payments is available, you should make your claim through your ATO, supplying them with the relevant details of the person taking the qualification. When the qualification is completed, the provider will update the Construction Training Register and you should automatically receive the grant payment within 28 days. Please contact our customer services team if your payment is late.

The interim claims arrangement described above will apply if:

  • your training provider has not yet completed the CITB ATO approval process, or
  • you are claiming for a qualification which is no longer supported in the 2018/2019 grants scheme year but has been achieved before 31 July 2018.

We will not pay claims received after this deadline.
