This standard is about hanging patterned wallpaper of various types including vinyl, non-woven and traditional. This standard includes wallpapering around a window, a chimney breast and a standard ceiling.

Purpose/scope

Purpose:

This standard is about hanging patterned wallpaper of various types including vinyl, non-woven and traditional. This standard includes wallpapering around a window, a chimney breast and a standard ceiling.

Scope:

  • interpreting information
  • adopting safe and healthy working practices
  • selecting and preparing materials and associated equipment
  • providing protection to the work area
  • hanging patterned vinyl, non-woven and standard paper to walls, ceilings, window reveals and a fireplace.

Occupational relevance

Training delivered against this standard would be relevant to the following occupational group(s):

  • operative and craft.

Delegate pre-requisites

Ideally the delegate will have either completed the basic wallpapering course or had some experience of wallpaper with foundation papers on site.

Instruction/ supervision

As a minimum, course trainers must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have:

  • a train the trainer or instructional techniques course certificate
  • successfully completed training to this standard
  • at least 2 years relevant industrial experience

Delivery

Delivery may be in an on or off the job environment.

All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for delegates to achieve learning outcomes, and must comply with relevant legislation.

The class size and delegate/trainer ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable delegates to achieve the learning outcomes.

The following delivery methods may be used in the delivery of this standard:

  • Workshop
  • courses mapped to this standard cannot be delivered remotely as there are practical activities

This standard is considered to contain 51 per cent or more practical training.

Assessment

For the successful completion of training, the trainer must be satisfied that the delegate has achieved all of the learning outcomes.

Quality assurance

Assured

Quality assurance against this standard will require initial approval of the training organisation and their content mapped to the standard.

CITB will also conduct an approval intervention, either desk-based or centre visit, to ensure the training organisation can meet the requirements of the training standard.

Approved training organisations (ATOs) will be required to present information on records of training and assessment upon request to CITB for desk-based analysis. They will also be visited annually by the CITB quality assurance team

Learning outcomes

The delegate will be able to:

  • Adopt safe and healthy work practices, procedures and skills relating to the method/area of work
  • Use methods of calculating quantity, length, area and wastage associate with the method/procedure to hang wallcoverings
  • Check suitability of surfaces to receive wallpaper.
  • Preparation of pastes and adhesives.
  • Prepare and hang the following; -
    • Patterned vinyl
    • Non-woven
    • Traditional paper
    • To the following surfaces; -
    • Walls
    • Ceilings
    • Window reveal
    • Chimney breast
  • Work around electrical fittings.
  • Safe use of access equipment, hand tools and associated equipment
