Overview

The purpose of this standard is to provide the delegate with the knowledge to support the following: understanding of the Code of Practice Design Recommendations. correct use of welding equipment. correct use of equipment to fabricate and install decorative sheet roofing. how to prepare Spire or Dome with underlay including joints & panels. how to install herringbone pattern with hollow rolls. how to install herringbone pattern with wood cored rolls. how to install welt joints & fixings. how to install hollow rolls, wood core rolls & welted joints to barrel vaulted roof with ridge & hip details. correct way to fabricate rainwater pipe & box hopper. preparing patterns before casting. Understanding of the regulations when working on heritage buildings or within conservation areas. lead casting simple embellishments using sand box technique. correct way to recycle waste materials.

Purpose/scope

The purpose of this standard is to provide the delegate with the knowledge to support the following:

Delegate pre-requisites

Delegates should have attended an intermediate level Lead Course or be able to demonstrate their ability on a pre course assessment and have excellent knowledge of roofing terminology and techniques.

Instruction/supervision

As a minimum, course trainers must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have:

  • an award in education and training (or equivalent, as per requirements for approved training organisations)
  • successfully completed training to this standard
  • at least 7 years relevant industrial experience
  • a verifiable CV

Delivery

Delivery will be off the job in a training environment.

All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for delegates to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation.

The class size and delegate/trainer ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable delegates to achieve the learning outcomes.

The following delivery methods may be used in the delivery of this standard:

  • classroom
  • blend of classroom and remote

This standard is considered to contain 51% or more practical training.

This standard is considered to be set at an advanced level.

Assessment

Method of assessment considered appropriate for training delivered against this standard are:

For the successful completion of training, delegates must complete an end of course practical assessment that measures all learning outcomes and has a pass or fail criteria.

Quality assurance

Assured

Quality assurance against this standard will require initial approval of the training organisation and their content mapped to the standard.

CITB will also conduct an approval intervention, either desk-based or centre visit, to ensure the training organisation can meet the requirements of the training standard.

Approved training organisations (ATOs) will be required to present information on records of training and assessment upon request to CITB for desk-based analysis. They will also be visited annually by the CITB quality assurance team.

Renewal

There are no mandatory renewal or recommended refresher requirements for this standard.

  • use tools and equipment to fabricate and install decorative sheet roofing.
  • prepare spire or dome module with underlay and set out joints and panels.
  • install hollow rolls in herringbone patten with a suitable weathering detail.
  • install wood cored rolls in herringbone patten with a suitable weathering detail.
  • install welt joints with suitable fixing and weathering details.
  • install hollow rolls to barrel vaulted roof with ridge and hip junction details.
  • install wood cored rolls to barrel vaulted roof with ridge and hip junction details.
  • install welted joints to barrel vaulted roof with ridge and hip junction details.
  • fabricate lead rainwater pipe with bend and eared collar.
  • fabricate boxed hopper.
  • fabricate simple embellishments using sand box technique.
  • clean all work areas and store scrap lead ready for recycling.
